Concurrent Pneumopericardium and Pneumothorax Complicating Lung Cancer: A Case Report
The coexistence of pneumothorax and pneumopericardium in patients with primary lung cancer is a very rare phenomenon. We report one such case, in which squamous cell carcinoma of the lung was complicated by pneumopericardium and pneumothorax. Several explanations of the mechanisms involved will be discussed.
متن کاملSpontaneous pneumopericardium related to active cytomegaloviral infection in a lung transplant recipient. The Groningen Lung Transplantation Group.
Spontaneous pneumopericardium occurred in a patient almost 4 weeks after bilateral lung transplantation for cystic fibrosis. The patient had no specific complaints and was in stable haemodynamic condition. We suggest that this pneumopericardium was related to a concomitant active cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. After treatment of the CMV infection, the pneumopericardium resolved spontaneously.
متن کاملIntraoperative occurrence of a pneumopericardium during double-lung transplantation.
Pneumopericardium is rare and has been reported secondary to chest trauma. We report a case of tension pneumopericardium occurring during double-lung transplantation, where intraoperative transoesophageal echocardiography first showed a hypokinetic left ventricle and a few minutes later a compression of its anterolateral portion due to pneumopericardium. Although the pericardium was opened, lef...
متن کاملPneumomediastinum and pneumopericardium in a patient with squamous cell lung cancer.
Documented cases of lung cancer complicated by pneumomediastinum and pneumopericardium are extremely rare. We report the case of a 55-year-old man with lung cancer complicated by pneumomediastinum and pneumopericardium. The patient was admitted with a 3-month history of dyspnea (Day 1). Computed tomography (CT) was performed and disease staging was established as cT4N3M0, although the tumor was...
متن کاملPneumopericardium Leading to Cardiac Tamponade in a Patient with Lung Cancer
Pneumopericardium resulting in cardiac tamponade in patients with lung cancer is not documented. We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung complicated by pneumopericardium and subsequent cardiac tamponade. The patient underwent an urgent pericardial window with rapid improvement in symptoms. We discuss the possible pathogenesis and treatment options for this rare condition.
